Rikki Jai is an Trinidadian chutney-soca artiste born Samraj Jaimungal in Friendship Village, San Fernando. Jai attended St Paul's Anglican Primary school after which he won a scholarship to Naparima College. His debut hit single, Sumintra (1988), told the tale of an Indo-Trinidadian woman from Debe who informed her boyfriend of her preference for soca over the music of Indian artist Lata Mangeshkar. Jai returned the following year with Pumping, then Bolo and Show Me Yuh Motion. His 1993 hit Wine on a Bumsee signalled Jai's exit from the soca world, opting for the "chutney soca" arena, in which he currently performs today. Always excelling at the Soca Chutney Monarch competitions, Jai released Chutney Vibrations, a compilation with soca chutney rhythms and his popular re-reading of the Juma. Dil e nadan was formed in 1957 by the late Usaf Khan and Ramnarine Moonilal. Dil e nadan won the Prime Minister's Trophy for best indian ochestration which was judjed by the late great Mohammed Rafi 1962. The band enjoyed alot of success in the years to follow and dominated the local indian industry. In the 80's the band toured mainly Canada,Guyana and Suriname and boasted the best local singers the country had at the time. (Nazimul and Ruby, Ras Nancoo). In the mid 80's Ramnarine's two sons Rennie and Raymond joined the group as percussionists then moving on to trumpets, and then Guitars and Keyboards.
